What Flowers Work for a Graveside Service

Graveside services are typically shorter and more intimate than a full funeral. The floral setup is smaller in scale but still meaningful. Here are the pieces most families choose.

Casket Spray

approx. $400 – $650

The traditional centerpiece of a graveside service. Placed directly on the casket, it's the most prominent floral tribute at the ceremony. Full sprays run the length of the casket for closed services. Half sprays are used when there is a viewing before burial.

For cremation burials, a smaller arrangement near the urn takes its place. Tell us the service type on the call and we'll recommend the right scale.

Standing Pieces on Easels

approx. $150 – $250 each

Standing sprays placed on easels at the head and foot of the grave, or flanking the casket. Most graveside services include one or two of these as a complement to the casket spray. They frame the ceremony space beautifully.

We use heavy, weather-rated easels designed for outdoor use. The arrangements stay secure even in Pacific Northwest wind and rain.

Wreaths on Easels

approx. $175 – $275

A circular wreath on a standing easel is a classic graveside choice. Often used for military services, veterans, and ceremonies where a formal, traditional feel is wanted. Can be customized with a ribbon bearing a name or short tribute.

Urn Arrangement

approx. $125 – $225

For cremation burials. A smaller arrangement that sits beside or near the urn during the service. Usually paired with one or two standing pieces to fill out the space.

If the urn will be interred, we design the piece so it can stand alone afterward or be taken home by the family.

Flowers That Work Well Outdoors

Some flowers hold up better in outdoor conditions than others. These are the varieties we reach for most often for graveside services.

Roses

Sturdy, long-lasting, and classic. Hold their shape in wind and hold color well in sunlight. Available in any color.

Carnations

One of the most weather-hardy flowers. Keep their form and color reliably outdoors. A traditional graveside choice.

Chrysanthemums

Full, textured blooms that do exceptionally well outside. Cultural significance in many traditions as a funeral flower.

Gladioli

Tall, striking stems that add height and presence to standing pieces. Sturdy enough to stay upright at outdoor services.

Lilies

Traditional and elegant. We use them selectively at outdoor services since they prefer moderate conditions, but they hold up well on cooler days.

Greenery & Filler

Eucalyptus, ferns, and other sturdy greenery add texture and weather resilience to every outdoor arrangement we build.

Graveside Service Questions

A graveside service is a funeral ceremony held at the cemetery, typically at the burial plot itself. It is shorter and more intimate than a traditional funeral service held at a church or funeral home. Many families hold a graveside service as the only ceremony, while others hold it immediately following a larger service elsewhere.
The most common setup is a casket spray placed on the casket, plus one or two standing pieces on easels at the head and foot of the grave. For cremation burials, a smaller urn arrangement replaces the casket spray. We recommend the right combination for your service size when you call.
Yes. Every arrangement we build for a graveside service is designed with Pacific Northwest weather in mind. We use sturdy flowers, heavy easel stands, and secure foam construction. Tell us the service location, time, and weather forecast on the call, and we build accordingly.
Yes. We deliver and set up at cemeteries throughout Clark County and surrounding areas, including Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Northwood Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, Fern Prairie Cemetery, Mother Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Old City Cemetery, and Vancouver Barracks National Cemetery. We coordinate with cemetery staff directly and arrive before the service begins.
Reach out as soon as you have the service details. We accommodate short-notice orders regularly. Call us and we will do everything we can to make it happen.
After a graveside service, families usually leave the flowers at the gravesite. Some cemeteries remove them after a set period. If you want to take any arrangements home, tell us on the call and we design them to travel well. We can also make recommendations for bringing pieces home to family members.
We build every graveside arrangement to handle Pacific Northwest weather. Light rain is not a problem. In heavy weather we use additional anchoring and water-shedding construction. We check the forecast and adjust the build accordingly. If conditions are severe enough to affect the service itself, we coordinate with you and the cemetery on timing.
No. You are free to order from any florist. Funeral homes often charge a markup on flowers. Working directly with us typically saves families money and gives you a more personalized, hand-built arrangement. We coordinate with the funeral home and cemetery ourselves.
